Kia ora friends,

I am back! With a heart full of gratitude, I want to express just how much I have missed engaging with all of you. Thank you for your unwavering support during my time away; your kindness has meant the world to me and my whānau.

As many of you know, I had to step back from Whatu+Co to care for my husband following a tragic accident in October 2024. This journey has been incredibly challenging, as he was left paralysed from the neck down and spent several months in ICU at Middlemore Hospital. Bringing him home to recover with our tamariki and mokopuna was a profound moment for us, but it required my complete focus and attention during this difficult time.

Not being able to connect with you has been one of the hardest parts of this journey. I have missed the learning, the celebrations, and the shared experiences that we’ve built together through Whatu+Co. Your support has been a source of strength for me, and I am truly grateful.

Now, I am re-energised and ready to lead Whatu+Co with renewed passion. I’m excited to share ideas and resources that will support your own learning journeys and our collective celebration of te Ao Māori.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I look forward to reconnecting, sharing, and growing alongside you all once more.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Shona Ua-Marsh
